James Edward McLachlan, 71, of Plainfield, Illinois, passed away on August 23, 2026.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Church, with burial afterward at St. Columba Cemetery.

James was born in Ottawa, Illinois, to Laurence and Joanne McLachlan. He was a lifelong farmer in Prairie Center, Illinois, and a loving husband to Donna. Together, they enjoyed traveling, visiting many countries, and making memories along the way. James was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. He had many friends and was known for being a good storyteller.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; sisters Laurie Govednik and Jean Olson (Jim); nephews Scott Govednik (Beth) and Mark Govednik (Olivia); great-nephews Owen, Beckham, and Nash; great-nieces Wrenley and Lenna; sister-in-law Mary Jo McLachlan; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Joanne McLachlan, and his brother, Jerry McLachlan.

Pallbearers will be Scott Govednik, Mark Govednik, Chris McLachlan, Will McLachlan, Michael McLachlan, and Jason Vollmer.
