James L Geiger

James L. "Goose" Geiger, 71, of Grand Ridge passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's of the Field Church in Grand Ridge. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with prayers at 3:45 pm at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. James was born January 17, 1943, in Streator, Illinois, to Lester and Elsie (Hettel) Geiger. He married Dorothy (Dvorchak) in St. Stephens Church in Streator on August 27, 1966. He was a farmer in Grand Ridge area. He was an avid sports fan and his favorite past-time was watching his three grandchildren play sports and never missed a game. He was a member of the Grand Ridge Fire Department for 48 years starting there November 14, 1966. He was also a member of St. Mary's of the Field Catholic Church, American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Jamie Hill of Grand Ridge; one son, Tim Geiger of Ottawa; three grandchildren, Garett Geiger of Ottawa, Chase and Wyatt Hill of Grand Ridge; one brother, Frank (Kathy) Geiger of Grand Ridge; and one sister, Shirley Geiger of Utica. He is preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Chase and Wyatt Hill, Garett Geiger, Jason and Ryan Geiger, and Jude Geiger. Memorials may be directed to the Grand Ridge Fire Department or to the donor's choice.
