John Robert "Jack" Abernathy, 93, of Ottawa passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Pleasant View. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Friday, May 2, 2014 at St. Mary's Church in Naplate with Father Mike Adrie officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Prayers at 3:30 pm. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery, Military Services. John "Jack" was born August 11, 1920 in Festus, Missouri to Percy and Della Mae (Aubuchon) Abernathy. He married Rose Dubach January 26, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Naplate. Jack worked at LOF 42 years, retiring in1984. He served in the US Army during WWII as a Rifleman. Jack was stationed in New Guinea, and The Philippines. He is survived by two daughters, Judy (Don) Kiesig and Peggy (Mark) Gjerde; two sons, Jack (Callie) Abernathy and Ed (Cindy) Abernathy; eight grandchildren, Kala (Chris) Ryan, Don Kiesig, Jr. Kevin (Monica) Kiesig, Mandi (Buddy) Gama, Amy (Tom) Proctor, Angie (Matt) Helms, Kyle Abernathy and Nick Abernathy; and eight great-grandchildren, Drew Gama, Haley Evans, Brayden, Genevieve, Logan and Rosie Helms , Dalton Ryan, and Carlton Kiesig. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose; one great-grandchild, Sarah Kiesig, a brother Don Abernathy and two sisters Catherine Rexroat and Mary Bayuk. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to Masses or Marquette Academy.
