Herbert Williams, 84, of Ottawa, IL, died, Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with the Msgr. Jerome Ham officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am Tuesday November 2, 2010 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Services. Herbert Williams was born July 9, 1926, in Ottawa, IL., to Herbert E. and Marie (Fribs) Williamson Sr. He married Veronica Simonich on April 21, 1951 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Herb served in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific theater during WWII on the USS North Caroline, he was an aircraft machine gun crewmember nicknamed "Gunny". He retired from Fairmont Minerals in 1969 to 1970 he was past Commander and life member of the American Legion Post 33, a life member of the VFW post 2470, and a 25 year member of the Military Honor Guard, member of Elks Lodge and the Ottawa Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Molly Adams of FL, Patricia Brown of NC; two brothers, Charles (Maureen) Williams of CO., and William Nixon of AK.; one niece; Suzie (Michael) Sutfin; and his nephew, Thomas (Cathi) Nixon. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Nixon. Pallbearers will be Michael Sutfin, Joseph Bohler, William Hatten, Robert Williams, Jerry Pool and Thomas Nixon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stanley Marcinowicz and Steve Johnson. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Church or Donors Choice.
