Helen Kaldheim

August 14, 1923 — April 20, 2016

Helen L. Kaldheim, 92, of Seneca passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at OSF St. Francis in Peoria.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Stavanger Lutheran Church. Her visitation will be 10:00 - 12:00 Saturday prior to services at Stavanger Lutheran Church. She will be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Seneca with military services. Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home in Seneca has been entrusted with her services.

Helen was born August 14, 1923 in Morris, Illinois to Vallie V. and Lillian M. (Anderson) Sleeth. She married Harold Kaldheim January 31, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri; he passed away in 2003. After she married Harold they both enlisted in the military. Helen was joined the US Army Air Corps from January 1944 to November 1945 and served as a medic in WWII. Helen and her husband owned Shamrock restaurant in Seneca for 21 years. She was well known within her community for her wonderful homemade food she. She was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Seneca. In her spare time Helen enjoyed crocheting blankets and especially the lap blankets for all her friends in the nursing homes. She enjoyed playing bingo and was even a Cubs fan the last few years. She will be greatly missed by everyone she knew and especially by her grand dogs, Holly and Daisy.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne (Terry) Steinbach of Morris and LaVeta Orsburn of Seneca; six grandchildren, Mark, Rod, and Jason Orsburn and Jen Webb, Brad and Fred Krause; six great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and one brother, Ron Sleeth of Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; one grandson, Brian Orsburn; two sisters, Ethel Raynor and Beverly Sleeth; and two brothers, Richard Sleeth and Vallie Sleeth Jr.

Pallbearers will be Mark, Rodney, and Matt Orsburn and Bradley and Fred Krause, and BJ Neal.

Memorials may be directed to Stavanger Lutheran Church or the LaSalle Veterans Home.
