Helen (Ross) Bach, 90, of Wheeling, formerly of Ottawa, died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Illinois. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00AM Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Addolorata Villa, 555 McHenry Road, Wheeling, Illinois with Rev. Nick officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM Saturday at St. Columba Cemetery in Ottawa. Arrangements are entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home. Helen was born November 30, 1919 in Ottawa, IL to Edwin and Christina (Shea) Ross. She married Otis J. Bach on January 20, 1941 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. He died May 6, 1986. She served many positions within the church including offices in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, St. Columba Parish Council, served thirty years on St. Columba Finance Committee, also as a Teachers Aide, President of the School Board, and Chairman of several fund drives for the church and school. She founded the local Federal Aid to Education representing all parochial schools in the city. She was a member of St. Columba Altar and Rosary Society and President of Woman's Golf Club at Dayton Ridge Golf Club. She contributed her time as a volunteer to Easter Seal Society and served five years on the Community Hospital Board of Governors serving two years as President of the Board of Governors. She was also a Board Member of the American Cancer Society and directed four successful yearly golf outings as a major fund raiser for them. She has been well known in the area for her achievements on the golf course. As a former member of Pine Hills Golf Club and Deer Park Country Club, she won the club championship for many years and has held that title as a member of Dayton Ridge Golf Club. She won Third Flight in the State Amateur Tournament and First Place in the Ladies' Division in the Ottawa City Tournaments, and the Ladies' Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Tournaments. She is survived by two sons, John Matthew (LoAn) Houston of Texas, and David Otis (Monica) of LaSalle; one daughter, Melissa Ann (Michael A.) Paull of Northbrook, IL.; four grandchildren, Adam, Amanda, and Morgan Paull of Northbrook, IL., and Brianna Bach of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis; one brother, Edwin A. Ross; and one sister, Rita Dougherty. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
