Glenn Wilkinson

August 8, 1932 — March 1, 2023

Ottawa

Glenn Wilkinson passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on March 1, 2023.

Glenn was born August 8, 1932, in Wedron, Illinois to Glenn and Myrtle (Tufte) Wilkinson. In his early years, Glenn was a star basketball and baseball player at Serena High School and was under contract to the St. Louis Browns, a farm baseball team. He served in and traveled with the U.S. Air Force for four years, stationed out of Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas.

Glenn worked at Caterpillar in Joliet; managed the Standard Oil full-service gas station in Seneca, and farmed with his brother-in-law Martin and nephew Marty on the Myre Farms. ‘Wilkie’ was a true outdoorsman and loved playing sports, boating, snowmobiling, working outside and was an avid golfer. When not working you were sure to find him on the golf course with his foursome buddies. During the golfing off-season (if there is such a thing), he enjoyed cheering on his favorite Lombardi team, the Green Bay Packers.

Glenn is survived by his sister, Norma Myre; three children, Rhonda, Scott and Tami; three grandchildren, Kyle and Marc Wilkinson, and Rebecca (Austin) Martinovich; former daughter in-law, Judy Wilkinson; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in law, Martin Myre; and his beloved golden retriever, Sheena.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. The family asks that any memorials be made to your favorite charitable organization.
