Gladys Marie Schmitt

Gladys Marie Schmitt, 80, of Ottawa died June 4, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Monday, June 7, 2010 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 6 from 3:00 - 6:00PM at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Gladys was born December 6, 1929 in Ottawa, Illinois to Bertram and Clara T. (Classon) Sampson. She married Carl A. Schmitt February 14, 1953 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa, Illinois. She is survived by her husband, Carl A. Schmitt; three daughters, Pam (Terry) Gross of Frankfort, IL, Darcy Schmitt, Denise Schmitt both of Ottawa; one son, Rick (Beth) Schmitt of Sandwich IL; five grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Yanule, Jay (Stephanie) Gross, Matt (Christina) Gross, Paul and Timothy Schmitt; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Marie Yanule; two sisters, Bernice Grunstad, Janice Wold; one brother, Orville Sampson; and many nieces and nephews. She had worked at Illinois Bell, Mason's Department Store and Handy Foods South Bakery. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Joseph Schmitt in infancy; one brother, Kermitte Sampson who lost his life in the European Tour serving in WWII; one sister, Arlette Giachino. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, their spouses, and nephew/godchild Mark Wold. Memorials may be directed to the family.
