OTTAWA -- Gertrude E. Arnold, 102, of Ottawa, died Monday, April 21, at the La Salle County Nursing Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Church with the Rev. Gerald Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with prayers at 4 p.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home. Mrs. Arnold was born Nov. 26, 1905, in Alexandria, Ind., to Jacob and Elizabeth (Ohlem) Bayer. She married Charles Leo Arnold on Sept. 25, 1928, at St. Francis of Assisi Church. He died Dec. 3, 1980. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Pleasant View Luther Home. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Gahan and Kay (Mike) Allen, both of Ottawa; two sons, Jack (Dianne) Arnold of Marion and William "Bill" Arnold of Ottawa; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Gertrude Barron and Eileen Pearson; one son, John Robert Arnold; one grandson, Tom Gahan; eight brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers will be Michael and James Barron, Dennis and Brian Allen, Tom Nixon, Richard Anderson, and Jerry and Mark Gahan.
