George Lovell

December 19, 1919 — March 20, 2008

George B. Lovell, 88, of Ottawa, died Thursday evening, March 20. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columba Church with the Rev. Ronald Dodd officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with military services. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus in attendance. George was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Ottawa, to George and Mary (Bohler) Lovell. He married Margaret Olson on Oct. 28, 1947, at St. Columba Church. He retired from GE Plastics in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving three years in the European Theatre, Normandy; northern France; Ardennes; Rhineland; and central Europe. He was a member of St. Columba Church, the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gail (Jim) Lundgren of Bartlett and Linda Carretto of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Angie Carretto, April (Gary) Windy and Abby Carretto, all of Ottawa, and Lauren (Jay) Avey of West Chicago; a great-grandchild, Lila Windy; and a sister, Marian Lowman of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Lovell; and two sisters, Dorothy Melland and Mildred Richardson. Pallbearers will be Jim Lundgren, Gary Windy, Jay Avey, Kevin Hughes, Dave Carretto and Art Lowman.
