George R. Conrad Sr., 81, of Utica died at St. Francis Medical Center and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 6, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at his side. Funeral Service for George will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa with Rev. Will Hanke officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Ottawa Funeral Home and also one hour prior to service on Monday at the church. George was born September 25, 1930 in Zionsville, Indiana to John and Shirley Conrad. He married Mildred Proefrock on December 2, 1951 and had four children. As a young father he was involved in Boy Scouts and Little League. George and Mildred would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 2, 2011. Throughout his life George served as a Marine as an Amphibious Landing instructor serving in Japan during the Korean War, a quality assurance supervisor for Hendrickson Mfg. and later G & O Mfg. in Peru, IL. George retired from G & O and became involved in Laborer's for Christ helping to build and rebuild churches. George's last employment was as at Concordia University Chicago, River Forest as a maintenance engineer. George enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to be with Christ in Heaven. George is survived by his wife Mildred, children George Jr. (Nancy), John (Lea), Joy (Bill) Meyer, Joel (Dawn), grandchildren JJ, Christen, Stephen, Sam, Luke, Malia, Joelle, Joshua, great-grandson Milo, sisters Betty Conrad, Nancy Arnold, Doris Kunzler, brother James Conrad as well as many nieces and nephews. George was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as elder. Memorials may be directed to the family.
