George L. Carretto, 78, of Ottawa died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, June 1, 2008 at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Philip Halfacre officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with Military Services. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 6:00 PM Sunday at the Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 2:00 and the Knights of Columbus in attendance. Mr. Carretto was born April 1, 1930 in Ottawa to Alphonse and Madeline (Conti) Carretto. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from February 1952 to October 1988. He opened and operated Carretto's Bar & Bowl October 1, 1966 retiring in October 1988. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 960; AARP; Starved Rock Model A Club and the Marc Model A Restorers Club. Mr. Carretto was a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus Lodge 634, the IL State Bowling Proprietors Association, IL Retail Liquor Association, VFW Post 2470 and American Legion Post 33. He bowled in the American Bowling Congress for 25 years, was Bowler of the Year in 1975 and was inducted into Ottawa Men's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1995. He is survived by three sons Robert (Lou Ann) of Ottawa, Greg (Pam) of Grayson, GA and Mark (Trudy) of Ottawa; eight grandchildren Gabriel, Abraham, Butch, Andrew, Josh, Ben, Jessica and Luke; four great-grandchildren Keith, MeKenzie, McKayla and Harrison; one brother Peter (Anna) of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Alphonse Jr. in 1944 and Phil in 1975. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
