George W. Bennett, 86, of Seneca, Illinois, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013, at his home. Funeral Services for George will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home in Seneca, with the Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca with Military Services being presented by Kasal Post 457. George was born March 7, 1927, in Seneca, Illinois, to LeRoy and Esther (Anderson) Bennett. He married Donna Durando Sterba in Marseilles at the Church of the Nazarene on September 21, 1970. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as an electrician and retired from Smurfit-Jefferson Co. in Morris after more than 40 years of service. George was a member of the American Legion Kasal Post 457. He practiced the Christian beliefs. Fishing, camping, and playing cards, especially euchre, were his pleasures. He is survived by his wife, Donna; three daughters, Cheryl Albertus, Janet Lyle, and Brenda (Rodger) Fought all of Ottawa; three step daughters, Angela Dahl of Marseilles, Andrea Dobyns of Ottawa, and Bernadine Sterba of Mississippi; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace (Wesley) Ward of Seneca and Genevieve Walter of Streator. He was preceded in death by two children, Cynthia and Ricky; brothers, LeRoy and Henry; and sisters, Annie Decker, Alice Downey, Sadie Fowler, Edna Thompson, and Esther Bivens. Pallbearers will be Nick Albertus, Mike Meagher, Craig Meagher, Rodger Fought, Tina Szafranski, and David Szafranski.
