Felix "Geno" Darif, 84, of Ottawa, IL passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at Pleasant View. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, September 30, at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00 p.m. with Knights of Columbus in attendance. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with Military Services. Geno was born March 12, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Felix and Mary (Pini) Darif. He married Doris Griglione May 13, 1950 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. He was a Bricklayer for Local #6 in Rockford, IL. He had been superintend for Toledo Engineering. He was a member of St. Columba Church and American Legion Post #33, Mendota Elks, Ottawa Moose Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946. He and his brother, Jim, built the Marquette Grotto and also volunteered on many other projects. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Janice Darif of Minooka, IL; one son, Thomas Darif of Utica, IL; two grandchildren, Tara Jo (John) Duncan of LaSalle, and Timothy (Nicole) Darif of Ottawa; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Jo Darif and Kate Jo Duncan; and two great grandchildren on the way. Geno is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Darif. Pallbearers will be Tim and Jim Darif, John Duncan, Tim Bohannon, Bill Warren, and Ron Leiteritz. Memorials may be directed to the family.
