Gaylon "Buck" G. Marek, 82, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian burial for Gaylon will be 10:00 am Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 Tuesday, January 10 at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00. He will be buried in St. Columba Cemetery. Gaylon was born May 9, 1929 in Ottawa, Illinois to Phillip Marek and Pauline Mayor. He married Lucille L. Midnight. He worked at LOF, D&K Tire Shop, Ottawa Lumber, and then he was a twenty year firefighter from August 14, 1960 to August 14, 1980. He was known for being a handyman and a woods craftsman. He was a member of St. Columba Church and retired Fire Fighters of Ottawa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, one daughter, Gay Ann (Harvey) Norwick of Ottawa; two sons, Mike of Ottawa and Keith of Chicago; three grandchildren, Michelle Marek, Bradley (Amy) Marek, and ReBecca (Jimmy) Glade; four great-grandchildren, Maddie, Brynley, Nora, and Caleb; and two sisters, Shirley Farmer, and Bunny Hertzner both of Ottawa. He is preceded in death by one son, Kevin; one brother, Tommy Marek; three sisters, Mayme Timm, Gerry Alsvig, and Bertha Hertzner. Pallbearers will be Matt Murry, Brad Marek, Jimmy Glade, Doug Schomas, Donald Moats, and Harvey Norwick. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ottawa Fire Department, active and retired. Memorials may be directed to the family or to St. Columba Masses.
