October 24, 1932 - November 1, 2013 Franklin Torres, 81, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away on November 1st, at Pleasant View Lutheran Home, surrounded by loved ones. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Ottawa Funeral Home. The Rev. David Kipfer of St. Columba Church will be officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery at a later date. Franklin was born to Macario Torres and Antonia Nieves in Naranjito, Puerto Rico. He was married to Carmen Larez on July 6, 1973, in Venezuela, South America, and they were married for 40 years. Franklin worked as a yellow cab driver and also for his sister's clothing business in New York for over 30 years. He also was a business owner and worked for the government in Puerto Rico until he retired in 2007. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing his cab stories, playing cards and dominoes. He will be greatly missed. Franklin is survived by his wife, Carmen; children, Luis Torres, stationed in South Korea, Oscar (Carmen) Torres of Texas, and Nina (Jose) Alvarez of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Andres, Dafne, Oscar Jr. and Franklin Torres, and Leonardo Alvarez; four brothers and sisters, Zoraida Bure, Ana Torres, Carmen Mora and Jorge Torres; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
