Eugene Wallace, 88, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Ottawa Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ottawa Funeral Home with Associate Pastor Wilbur Zeal officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with military services.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Millspring, Mo., to Perry and Melvina (Bowers) Wallace. He married Shirley Oliver on Nov.4, 1949, in Port Arthur, Texas. He retired from pipefitting and welding after 45 years. After retirement, he repaired lawn mowers and worked on small engines. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 597 and Masonic Lodge. He served in the Army during World War II as an airplane mechanic. Survivors include his wife; two daughters,Lavell (James Jr.) O'Donnell of Ottawa and Betty (Vic) Bute of Georgia; three sons, Mel (Deborah) and Allen (Jackie), both of Ottawa, and Ricky (Kathy) of Streator; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters,Marie (John) Carter and Mattie (Forest) Lowe; and three brothers,Duane (Betty), Roy (Margaret) and Donald (Maureen) Wallace. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Cory Bute; four brothers, Nolan, James, Ray Vern and Perry Joe; and one sister, Evelyn Leach. Pallbears will be his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the family.
