Elsie M. Geiger, 92, of Grand Ridge died Thursday, March 17, 2011 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Thursday March 24, 2011 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 7:00PM. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Elsie was born April 15, 1918 in Grand Ridge, Illinois to Albert and Rose (Harlow) Hettel. She was raised and educated in the Grand Ridge area. She married Lester Geiger at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. He preceded her in death September 17, 1999. She was a member of St. Columba Church, Catholic Daughters of Americas, and the Farm Bureau. She liked to play cards at the Woman's Club in Ottawa as well as with the Catholic Daughters. Just give her a call and she was ready for a card game. At one time she did volunteer work at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator. Up until a few years ago, she enjoyed bowling with the Ladies Auxiliary League in Streator. Elsie was a very strong woman who was determined to fight when any circumstance was put before her. She is survived by two sons, James (Dorothy) and Frank (Kathy) Geiger both of Grand Ridge; one daughter, Shirley Geiger of Utica; one granddaughter, Jamie Hill of Grand Ridge; four grandsons, Tim (Kathy) Geiger of Ottawa, Jude Geiger of Chicago, Jason (Evy) Geiger of Aurora, and Ryan Geiger of Champaign, IL.; one step-granddaughter, Amanda Snyders of Ottawa; and three great-grandsons, Garret Geiger, Chase and Wyatt Hill of Grand Ridge, and her caregiver Anna Markowski. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Albert Hettel. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandson Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church or Grand Ridge Fire Department.
