Elizabeth "Betty" L. (Malik) Serby, 82, of Grayslake, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Monday. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place at Norway Cemetery. Betty was born September 20, 1931, in Ottawa, Illinois to Michael and Mary (Wielgopolan) Malik. She married Leo Serby on November 7, 1953, in the rectory of the First Methodist Church in Morris, Illinois. Leo preceded her in death on October 18, 2007, in Colorado. Betty's life was devoted to nurturing and giving her time to others. Her loving spirit and quick smile will be greatly missed. She is survived by two sons, Mark (Marcy) Serby of Colorado Springs, CO and Michael (Kathryn) Serby of Mundelein; grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle) Jones of Greeley, CO, Joshua of Fort Collins, CO, and Rebecca of Colorado Springs, CO, Emily, Zachary, and Lauren Serby of Mundelein; one great granddaughter, Caylee Jones; two great grandsons, Andrew and Caleb Jones; brothers, William (Connie) Malik of Ottawa, Eugene (Sharon) Malik of Oro Valley, AZ, and John "Jack" (Kay) Malik of Wedron; a sister, Dorothy Tickle of Pensacola, FL; and a special niece, Sandra Malik of Castro Valley, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, Michael and Mary Malik; a sister, Marian Brooks; and a brother, Richard Malik. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Foundation for His Ministry of San Clemente, CA or at www.ffhm.org.
