Dr. Elizabeth Ohlmacher

Dr. Elizabeth A. (Betty) Ohlmacher, formerly of Ottawa, passed away January 14, 2014, at Heritage Health in Normal, Illinois. Private graveside services were held at Oakwood Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Betty was born December 14, 1924, in Ottawa, to Winfield Scott and Esther (Thomas) Ohlmacher. She received her B.S. from Northern Illinois University, her M.S. from Colorado State University and her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. She taught several levels and spent the majority of her years at Maine Township High Schools, Park Ridge, as District and Building Chairman of the Home Economics Departments. She belonged to numerous Home Economics/Vocational/Teacher organizations. She was a member and President of Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Park Ridge, transferring to Omicron Chapter when she returned to Ottawa and a member and President of LaSalle County Retired Teachers Association. Aunt Betty is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sandra (William) Slingsby of Bloomington, Brian (Kathy) Carr of Joliet, Andrea Carr of Placentia, CA, Jim (Ireene) Ohlmacher of Laurel, MD, John (Jane) Ohlmacher of Friendship, MD, George (Cathy) Ohlmacher of Buena Park, CA, Dr. Gregory (Sue) Ohlmacher of Lawrence, KS, and Bill (Debbie) Ohlmacher of Adamstown, MD; fourteen great nieces and nephews; and nine great-great nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Thomas and John (Katherine Halm) Ohlmacher; and one sister, Alma (Joseph) Carr. Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma or the donors' choice.
