Elizabeth "Betty" L. Duback, 87, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 with her family at her side. Her family and six children were with her through her final days, sharing memories and celebrating her life. She passed peacefully, having spoken of her good life and blessings of good family. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 Friday, June 25, 2010 at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Betty was born April 15, 1923 in Ottawa, IL to William E. and Catherine (Delaney) Nagle. She married Francis (Honk) Duback on June 5, 1948 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. He passed away February 27, 2004, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Betty graduated from Ottawa High School in 1940. She attended DePaul University and Illinois Valley Community College. She volunteered for many years in various capacities at St. Columba Church, including being a leader for Camp Fire Girls, and Cub Scouts, and in book and bridge clubs for many years. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, including Ireland, the home of her ancestors. While raising her children, she spent many wonderful summers at Pitstick's Dairy Lake. She had a special fondness for the family dog, Chipper. Betty loved being a wife and mother, and was proud of her children, and always had a bright smile for family and friends. Her sense of humor and twinkling eyes spoke of her past, present, and hope for all people. She will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her six children; John of Ottawa, IL, Daniel (Val) of Normal, IL, David (Linda) of Glenview, IL, James of Ottawa, Mary (Al) Milliren of Flossmoor, IL, and Anne of Normal; four grandchildren, Mike and Katie Duback of Ottawa, and Susan and Andrew Duback of Glenview, IL; a niece, Jeanne Helwig and family of Ottawa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Delaine Helwig, brother in law, John Helwig, and nephew, Jay Helwig. Pallbearers will be her four sons and two grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Berry, Michael Dougherty, and Rex Rhodes. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of donor's choice, the Red Stocking Fund, or family wishes which will be shared with those less fortunate.
