Eleanor Hess

Eleanor Hess, 89, of Marseilles, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marseilles. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery.

Eleanor was born August 14, 1935, to George and Mildred (Budach) Durdan.

She attended Marseilles High School and immediately after graduating, started working as a secretary at Bakelite where she retired with over 30 years of experience. In her free time, she enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, going fishing, and playing Euchre. She had a green thumb and had a beautiful vegetable garden. She used everything she grew to can things like beets and salsas and sauces.

She is survived by her sister, Loretta Riehle; her nieces and nephews, Kevin, Joe, Cindy, and Sue; many great nieces and nephews; as well as her dear friends, Kim Diss, Linda and Jim Cavallini, and Ron Callahan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred; her brother, Jerry Durdan; her first husband, Jack Kostello; and the love of her life, Dave Brown.
