Edward "Ed" Wielgopolan, 92, of Naplate, passed away Monday February 12, 2018 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, on Thursday February 15, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11:30 am, prior to services, at the church. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with full military rites. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. Ed was born December 2, 1925 in Naplate to Stanley and Catherine (Siminski) Wielgopolan. He married Jane McNamara on July 24, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Naplate; she passed away Mary 5, 2016. Ed retired from LOF-Pilkington and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Naplate and the American Legion. He was also a member and honorary member of the Naplate Fire Department. Ed served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He is survived by one daughter, Julie Wielgopolan of Naplate; his furry friend, Kirby; and one brother, Ray Wielgopolan. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; eight sisters, Anastasia Wielgopolan, Mary Malik, Helen Geiger, Sophie Micklos, Louise Washko, Henrietta Ohlendorf, Josephine O'Berto, and Florence Dammann; and three brothers, Stanley, Steven, and Francis "Frank" Wielgopolan. Pallbearers will be Michael McNamara, Matt, Mike, and Chris Pagakis, and Steve and Tim Wielgopolan. Memorials may be directed to the family.
