Edward J. Facer, 86, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at LaSalle Veterans Home. Funeral Service for Edward will be Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery with Military Services. Edward was born April 4, 1925 in Ottawa, Illinois to John and Mary (Mancini) Facer. He married Marjorie Hayes September 7, 1946 in Chicago at St. Gabriel's Church. He was a member of St. Columba Church. He served in the United States Navy during WWII stationed in the European Theatre, with involvement in D-Day and also serving in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from LOF after 45 years. He was a fisherman, a hunter, a handyman, an avid walker after his retirement, and loved to play cards and bingo. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; one daughter, Diana (John) Krug of Ottawa; three grandchildren, Jason Krug of Ottawa, Matthew (Jan) Krug of Ottawa, and Danielle (Eric) Majcen of Chicago; five great grandchildren, Andrew, Jack, Laura, Leah, and Layne; and one sister, Dorothy McDonald of Ottawa. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Louie Gallo. Pallbearers will be Jason, Matt, and Andrew Krug, Eric and Jack Majcen, and Jim Simcich. Memorials may be directed to the Veterans Home in LaSalle, Illinois.
