Donald L. Smith, 68, of Young Harris, Georgia, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Monday, July 24, 2012 at his home. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday August 6, 2012 at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Oakwood Memorial Park with military services. Ottawa Funeral Home oversaw his cremation. Donald was born December 11, 1943 in Dixon, Illinois to Louis and Ruth (Wagner) Smith. He married Marianne Ftacek July 14, 1989 in Ottawa, Illinois. He served in the United States Marines. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He worked as a correctional officer at Sheridan Correctional Center. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Marianne; four daughters; two sons; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister; and two brothers. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Memorials may be directed to Pet Project or American Cancer Association.
