Donald Edward Harmon, 97, of Ottawa, Illinois passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Heritage Woods in Ottawa surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21 at St. Mary's Church in Utica with Msgn. Swaner officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, December 20 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Utica. Donald was born on June 22, 1918 in Waltham Twp., Illinois to Edward and Belle (Hanley) Harmon. He married Catherine Walsh on April 11, 1944 in St. Columba Church in Ottawa. Donald was a partner at the Harmon Brothers Farms in Utica and Elburn. He also worked at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mt. Home, Arkansas, and Harmon Builders in Sugar Grove. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plano, St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mt. Home, AR., St. Gall's Catholic Church in Elburn, Kaneland/Elburn PTA, was on the Production Credit Association (PCA) Board of Directors, and the Elburn Co-op Board of Directors. He is survived by wife, Catherine; his children, Gregory (Mandy) Harmon, Ruth Harmon, Dennis (Sheila) Harmon, Marty (Paula) Harmon, Sharon (Dennis) Neylon, and Susan (Andre) Astorga; his grandchildren, Shelly (Chris) Winkler, Mike (Laura) Harmon, Nicole (Peter) Corken, Rebecca Harmon-Sneller, Rob (Sandy) Harmon, Kelly (Matt) Quinn, Sarah Harmon, Erin Harmon, Andrea Harmon, Sam Neylon, Nick Neylon, Ashley (Luke) Losic, and Jeremy Assell; great grandchilren, Piper Winkler, Ben Winkler, Riley Corken, Brady Corken, Kelsey Corken, Nola Quinn, Molly Quinn, Donnie Harmon, Josh Harmon, and Caden Sneller. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard; his daughter, Colleen; and his brothers, Hanley, LeRoy, and Kenneth Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice, St. Mary's Church in Plano, or Good Night, Sleep Tight is a fundraiser started by Don's great granddaughter (Piper Winkler) to help provide bedtime necessities for children in need.
