OTTAWA -- Donald Moore Esmond, 84, of Ottawa, died Saturday, Jan. 5, at Pleasant View Luther Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ottawa Funeral Home with Chaplain Kerwin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with military services. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Esmond was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Ottawa, to Oakley W. and Carrie (Ward) Esmond. He married Mary Kelly on Jan. 12, 1946, at St. Columba Church. He was a carpenter foreman at Libby-Owens-Ford until his retirement. He was a second class metalsmith in the Navy Seabees, serving with the 75th Naval Construction Battalion in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1946. He participated in the liberation of the Philippines. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and VFW. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Christine Warren; two grandchildren, Todd Warren and Aimee Barth; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert; and a sister, Virginia Crawford. Pallbearers will be Pat Crawford, William Barth and Howard Jr. and Todd Warren.
