Donald L. Billings, 92, of Wedron, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota.
A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, January 10, from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Military Honors will be rendered by the Ottawa American Legion Post 33 at 3:00pm at the funeral home.
Donald was born July 6, 1932, in Ottawa, IL, to Dale and Gladys Billings. He was a 1950 graduate of Serena High School, Serena, IL. He joined the Army Reserves in 1950, served in Korea and then transferred to the United States Navy in 1952. While in the Navy he attended Del-Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas and then continued education with the United States Armed Forces Institute, and finished at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He retired from the United States Navy in 1972. He worked in maintenance at the Community Hospital of Ottawa for 11 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his kitties.
He is survived by his six children, Faith (Bob) Messier of South Dartmouth, MA, Brenda (Garry) Fessler of Wedron, IL, Kevin (Tamra) Billings of Seattle, WA, Jackie Hoxie (Kevin Kinser) of Seneca, IL, Gladys Solleveld of Seneca, IL, and Donovan (Nancy) Billings of Bolingbrook, IL; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Gladys Billings; the 3 loves of his life, Mary Ann Billings, Jane Billings, and Donna Becker; his sister, Jacqueline Skillman; his brother, Robert Billings; and a grandson, Keagan Solleveld.
