Donald "Capt" E. Armstrong, 83, of Ottawa, IL, died, Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his home. Funeral Services be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Jules Adator. Visitation will be 4 - 7 pm, Tuesday, January 11 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery, with Military Services. Donald was born, April 25, 1927, in Delavan, IL. to Orville and Zellma (Mosley) Armstrong. He married Virginia Keim on Oct. 15, 1946 in Ottawa. She died Dec. 10, 2006. He joined the Ottawa Fire Dept. on January 1st 1952 and retired as Captain on June 11, 1986. He served in the US Navy on the USSLST 990 in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was a member of American Legion Post 33, Ottawa VFW and the Ill Assoc. of Retired Fire Fighters. He is survived by one daughter, Marsha Taylor of Princeton IL; one son, Mark (Lori) Armstrong of Ottawa; seven grandchildren; David and Marc Armstrong, Kristie Walker, Chelsi Voga, Taggert and Thaxton Van Belle and Chandra Adams; eleven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dale (Donna) Armstrong Chillicothe, Dean (Norma) Armstrong of Crothersville, Ind, Darryl Armstrong of East Peoria and David Armstrong of Alpharetta GA; and two sisters Jean (Bob) Kosnick of Ottawa and Joyce Ashby of Madison, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife; parent's; one son, David Michael Armstrong; one brother, Dan Armstrong; and two sisters, Beth Ann Drake and Mary Stephen.
