Dennis "Sam" Lewis

Dennis "Sam" Lewis, 81, of Ottawa, Illinois passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at his home. Funeral Ceremony will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Ottawa Funeral Home with TerryAnn Dumyahn officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, December 21, 2014 prior to services at Ottawa Funeral Home. Dennis was born May 1, 1933 in Ottawa, Illinois to John "Rick" and Ellen (Farrell) Lewis. He married Shirley Fox on September 4, 1995 in Ottawa; she passed away February 28, 2014. He retired after many years of service from LOF. He was an amazing baseball player; he was inducted in the 1983 Illinois Valley Baseball Associations Hall of Fame. He will be missed by Hunter Miskell, the apple of his eye. He was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed deeply by his family. He is survived by his two sons, Rick and Jeff Smith; four daughters, Lori Willet, Kelli Lyle, Brenda Harkins, and Kayla (Dana) Kennedy; fifteen grandchildren, Aaron (Katie) Willet, Stacey (Lin) Gabehart, Miranda Lyle, Jenna Lyle, Sarah Lyle, Darrin Miskell, Christy Ringswald, Brendin Miskell, Scott Smith, Michael (Mandy) McAlister, Steve (Galen) McAlister, Mike and Mark Aliamo, Chanice Owens, Danielle (Jarod) Thompson; eighteen great-grandchildren; three nephews, Pookie, Chuck, and Kenny Lewis; and one niece, Mary Ellen Beck. He is preceded in death by eleven siblings, James "Jim" Farrell, John "Red", Francis "Skinny", Marie, Thomas "Hougan", William "pug", Charlotte, Robert "Pork", Kenneth "Eep", Michael "Mike", and Donald Lewis.
