Delbert LeRoy McConnaughhay, 77, of Ottawa, Illinois, departed this life and returned to his creator on March 5, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after a brief illness. Memorial Service for Delbert will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Brick officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to service, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park with full Military Rites. Delbert was born May 2, 1935, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Clarence and Buna (Holloway) McConnaughhay. He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Hume); stepchildren, John (Karole) McLaughlin, Margaret (Michael) Martiniak, Robert (Leslie) McLaughlin, James McLaughlin; grandchildren, Jacque, Kyle, Layton, Kelsey, Jackson, Aris, Kayla, and Aiden; and his little black yorkie, Maddy, who will miss him the most. Also surviving are the McConnaughhay nephews, Mark (Melodie), Keith (Greta), Scott (Lori), and Dennis (Patty); the Frig nephews, Butch (Bernice), A.J. (Barbara), Rick and Don Knox; nieces, Lounetta (Richard) Ceja, Denise (Jim) Anderson, Dianne (Jack) Thompson, Sherry Wheeler, and Barbara Wheeler; great nephews, Jeff and Rob, Mark and Tommy, Timmy and Billy, Gabe and Nathan, Christopher and Nicholas, Jamie and Charlie, Doug and Dustin, Steve and Darrel, Joseph and Dennis; great nieces, Susan, Kaitlyn, and Mariclaire, Brooke, Margaret, and Erin, Ginny and Kristy, Debbie, Carol, Ruth and Paula, Kelly, Buffy and Stephanie and Jenny. He has one living uncle, Hank Holler of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Buna McConnaughhay; brothers, Oliver "Gene" and Kenneth; sisters, Ruth and Bernadine; son, Rick; nephews, Gary, Kenny, and Bobby; and nieces, Mary Jo and Carol. Delbert was an electrician, and a commercial and private pilot. He served in the United States Army, and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from Libby Owens. An accomplished hunter and fisherman, he was inducted into the LaSalle County Sportsman Hall of Fame in 2005 as past president and a Melvin Jones recipient. He belonged to the NRA, Downers Grove Sportsman Club, Indian Creek Gun Club, and Ducks Unlimited. He will be deeply missed by a host of his many friends.
