Cynthia Rae Nordstrom, 54 of Peru, formerly of Worden, IL, passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital.
Ottawa Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with her cremation rites. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 23rd, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Little Elk Township, MN.
Cindy was born in St. Paul, MN on February 29, 1964, (a Leap Year baby) to Raymond L. and Priscilla M. (Motzko) Nordstrom. An intelligent and hardworking woman, she received her BA from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul and her MA and PhD in industrial-organizational psychology from the University of Akron. Cindy spent more than 20 years as a university professor, teaching at Illinois State University in Bloomington and at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She was dedicated to both her research and her students.
When not in school, Cindy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling, antique shopping, and arguing politics.
She is survived by her brother, Roger (Susan) of Cedar Creek, TX; sisters, Donna Nordstrom (Patrick Whelan) of Ottawa and Debra (Christopher) Thompson of White Bear Lake, MN; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents and her three beloved pets, Sam, a cocker spaniel, Lucy, a fox terrier, and Minnie, a Jack Russell terrier. Because of her love for animals, memorials may be directed Pet Project Inc., a no-kill animal shelter in Marseilles, IL.
