Charles Walter Zimmerman, 87, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Ottawa Pavilion.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00-11:45 am, Wednesday, November 23 at Ottawa Funeral Home, followed by Military Services at 11:45 am. He will be buried in Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Charles was born June 25, 1929 in Streator, to Walter and Louisa (Greener) Zimmerman. He married Gwendolyn Stuart June 4, 1970 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottawa; she passed away January 23, 2016.
Charles was a member of the United States Air Force, proudly serving as Tech Sergeant and Crew Chief from October 10, 1950 until October 10, 1954. He was a popular local drummer for many years, was a carpenter, and owned Zimmerman Home Improvement with his wife. He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his nephew, William (Charlene) Zimmerman, of Bloomington, Illinois, and nieces Janet (Alan) Marsh and Paula Zimmerman of Ottawa, Illinois; and five grandnephews and grandnieces, Nathan Zimmerman, Kristi Zimmerman-Weiher, Alexander Marsh, Natalie Marsh, and Andrew Kusnerik.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, William R. Zimmerman.
Memorials may be directed to Ottawa Pavilion.
