Charles "Chip" Steep

Charles "Chip" Steep, 81, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Visitation will be Friday, June 28, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A second visitation will take place on Saturday, June 29, from 10:00am until 11:00am, at the chapel at Pleasant View Lutheran Home. A funeral ceremony will take place at 11:00am, in the chapel, with Pastor David Ufkes officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery.

Chip was born November 28, 1942, in Seneca, IL, to Clinton and Marjorie (Thorson) Steep. He married Patricia Schomas on April 24, 1965 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ottawa. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2016.

Chip was a graduate of Seneca High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a maintenance technician and part of a unit that was cited for its proficiency during the final evaluation of the SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft. He worked as a maintenance electrician at a plant in Seneca for 30 plus years before retiring. Chip will be remembered for his great love for his family and his unwavering devotion to his wife Patricia.   He loved Chicago Cubs baseball, maintaining his automobiles, aviation, and boating, and was a past member of Shoreline Boat and Ski Club in Ottawa.    He resided at Hearthstone assisted living at Pleasant View Lutheran Home in Ottawa and loved the company of residents and staff there.

He is survived by three children: Tim (Cheryl) Steep of Peachtree Corners, Ga, Cheri Rainwater of Carmel Indiana, and Brian Steep of Ottawa, Grandchildren Ava and Charlie Rainwater, Sisters Susan Phelps and Judith Jelm, and several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, and two brothers Bill and Wayne
