Charles Bassing, 89, of Ottawa, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Illinois Veteran's Home in LaSalle.
Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, February 14, at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Pastor Alex Cross officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 prior to the service Tuesday at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Troy Grove Cemetery.
Charles was born February 15, 1933, in Mendota, IL, to Robert and Minnie (Fessler) Bassing. He married Mary Faith Campbell on October 19, 1968 at The First Baptist Church in Mendota.
Charles worked as an Engineering Tech. for IDOT. He enjoyed grilling, gardening (he grew great radishes) and time spent with his family, especially his granddaughters. In his later years, he was never without a Diet Coke and a bag of Lays potato chips.
Charles served our country in the United States Army as a field wireman in the Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Faith Bassing; Daughter, Rebecca Kovash, Son in Law ,Chad Kovash, and grandchildren, Elly & Libby.
He is also survived by his sisters in law Jane (Ted) Zimmerman, Martha (Tom) Schmitt, and Sue (Jerry) Zolper and brother in law Gary (Nancy) Campbell and nieces Robin (Jim) Boyes and Joan (Kelly Connor) Bassing.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Veterans Home staff for the wonderful care they provided for Charlie over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research, the Illinois Veterans Home at LaSalle, or Pet Project.
