Charlene M. Wilkins

Charlene M. Wilkins, 71, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Heritage Manor of LaSalle. Cremation rites have been accorded through Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory. Charlene was born February 27, 1946 in Cresco, Iowa, the twin daughter of Charles and Ferneva (Weinkauf) Nast. She married Wayne Wilkins on November 2, 1968 in Granger, Minnesota; he passed away November 20, 2015. Charlene was baptized February 27, 1946 and Confirmed April 10, 1960. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and was employed by the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Ottawa, retiring in 2002. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she worked with the Stewardship Group sewing quilts and serving on the funeral committee. In retirement, she also volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital and worked with the Project Santa group in LaSalle, which sewed and filled stockings for soldiers. Playing cards and traveling were also her favorite pastimes. She is survived by her son, Lee Wilkins; and her twin sister, Sharla. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
