Brian "Midge" Allen

February 24, 1967 — October 28, 2021

Ottawa

Brian T. (Midge) Allen, 54, of Ottawa passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at his sister's home surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, November 2nd at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, November 1 at Ottawa Funeral Home.

Brian was born February 24, 1967, in Ottawa to Michael and Kay (Arnold) Allen. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1985. He belonged to the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 422. Brian was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Shoreline Boat Club and the Knights of Columbus.

In 1977, Brian was diagnosed with Acute Monocytic Leukemia, a rare childhood cancer. During this time Brian was one of the only 4 reported cases in the U.S. His journey with cancer was reported in medical journals across the nation because he beat the odds. In 1978, the town rallied behind him, along with his family and friends, for one of the first benefits in Ottawa which was a great success. With Brian’s spunk, determination, and the large support from the town, Brian lived the rest of his 54 years to the fullest. He was a devoted Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan that attended many games. Brian loved his dogs, past and present; Piccolo, Sayers, Halas, Lacher and Hampton.

We would like to send a heartfelt “Thank you” to his JJ’s family, many of his doctors and nurses, especially the OSF ultrasound department and radiologists who took such great care of him. He loved you all!

He is survived by his brother, Dennis (Debbie) Allen; his sister, Kayla (Pete) Neurohr; three nephews, Kody (Amanda) Neurohr, Ben Neurohr, and Andrew (Molly Angell) Allen; his niece, Michaela Neurohr, two great-nieces, Tessa and Lola Neurohr; his uncles, Jack Arnold and Kevin (Trudy) Allen; his aunts, Jan (Ed) Dennis and Arla (Mike) Dimenich.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Any donations should be directed to the family for a scholarship in Brian’s name.
