Brenda Mccague

Brenda McCague, 61, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.

Following her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Cremation rites have been accorded to Ottawa Funeral Home.

Brenda was born August 12, 1961, in Ottawa, IL, to Arland and Rita (Shapcott) Stayton. She married Thomas McCague Jr. on July 6, 2010 in Ottawa.

Brenda loved to garden, she could usually be found tending to her flowers. When she wasn't in her flower beds, she enjoyed working on puzzles, paint by numbers, or playing a game of cards with her family. She was an avid sports fan, following the Cubs, Bears, and the Bulls. Her grandchildren were her whole world though. She never missed an opportunity to go to a game or to attend their school functions. Her goal was to see as many of her grandchildren graduate as she could.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas McCague Jr.; her children, Tammy Ewing, Chris (Elise) Ewing, and Kelly (Dwight) Wheeler; her grandchildren, Caitlyn Ewing, Kendra Wheeler, Kaleb Ewing, Dwight "DJ" Wheeler Jr., Kendall Wheeler, Devin Ewing, and Daxton Wheeler; her seven step children; her twenty one step grandchildren; and her siblings, Arland Stayton Jr., Sandy Tapp, Phyllis Hopkins, and Kathy Dickison.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Ricky Stayton and Gregory Stayton.
