Beverly J. (Corcoran) Snell

Beverly J. (Corcoran) Snell, 88, of Ottawa, Illinois, left this world on February 27, 2012. She was born in Ottawa, Illinois on August 13, 1923 to Frank J. and Iva C. (Jensen) Thumm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at St. Columba Church, with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1 with prayers at 4:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home, with the Catholic Daughters of America in attendance. She graduated from St. Columba School and St. Xavier's Academy for Girls. She married Leo M. Corcoran on June 12, 1943. He preceded here in death on September 24, 1982. She then married Harold M. Snell on April 27, 1996. He passed away on May 12, 2010. Beverly was a life long member of St. Columba Parish, Catholic Daughters of America, Loners on Wheels, Loners of America, and the St. Columba Parents' Club. She was a Blue Bird, Campfire, and Cub Scout Leader. Being involved with her children and later her grandchildren, taking them to activities and sports was her priority. The grandchildren were dearly loved and she would care for them tirelessly. She was proud of her large family and her hobbies including crafts of all kinds, camping, traveling, and sewing. She was a very talented seamstress for several local stores and had traveled to all fifty states. Leo and Beverly owned a farm in Wallace Township and she had farmed there for sixty six years. Harold had a farm in LaSalle Township and she farmed there for fourteen years. Beverly was a treasure and often said how lucky she had been to have been blessed with her family and the love of two wonderful men. We all truly loved this woman and she will be missed immeasurably. Surviving her are five daughters, Shari (Bob) Stoudt, Pam (Don) Batistini, and Kerin (Kevin) Robinson, all of Ottawa, and Judy (Steve) McConville and Nancy (Curt) Faber, both of Mendota; two sons, Dennis (Brenda) Corcoran of Belvidere and Kevin (Kathy) Corcoran of Ottawa; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a sister, Margie Allen; an infant son; a daughter-in-law, Mary Louise Stapleton; a grandson, Ryan Stoudt; and two infant grandsons. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Craig Stapleton-Corcoran, Jason and Joshua Corcoran, Allen and Jeff Stoudt, Shaun DeFore, Kurt and Kory Robinson, Donald and Chad McConville, and Casey and Ed Kelly. Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church, Marquette Academy, or Hospice.
