Bernice C. Grunstad, 92, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at LaSalle County Nursing Home. Funeral Service for Bernice will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Freedom Lutheran Cemetery. Bernice was born October 9, 1919 in Prairie Center, Illinois to Bertram and Clara (Classon) Sampson. She married Curtis Grunstad on April 5, 1947 at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. He passed away on January 11, 1991. She was a member of Freedom Lutheran Church and the Moose Club. Bernice was a telephone operator for Illinois Bell, and worked at the Steak House for 27 years. She loved to play bingo. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bernice was a very hard worker and enjoyed people very much and will be missed by all those she served. The most cherished gift that Bernice and her beloved husband, Curtis gave their children was to make sure that they were all confirmed at Freedom Lutheran Church. She is survived by four daughters, Kay Grunstad of Normal, Cathy (Ron) Brue of Manville, Vicki (Don) Carroll of Covington, Georgia and Brenda Grammer of Ottawa; two sons, Keith (Charlene) Grunstad of Durant, Oklahoma and Gary (Vickie) Grunstad of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Chance (Mary) Grunstad, Kiley (Jolinda) Grunstad, Beau (Lamese) Grunstad, Brooke (Jeff) DeGuilio, Travis Brue, Shannon (Jeff) Butera, Lacey (Nick) Grammer and Cody (Stephanie) Grammer; twelve great grandchildren, Nicholas, Josh, Daniel, Jennie, Katelynn, Madison, and Jacob Grunstad, Alyssa Butera, Alan and Gabriel Spencer, and Gunner and Isak Grammer; one sister, Janice Wold of Utica; and one brother, Orville Sampson of Peru. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Arlette Giachino and Gladys Schmitt; and one brother, Kermitte Sampson. Pallbearers will be Chance, Kiley, and Beau Grunstad, Travis Brue, Cody and Mark Grammer, Nick Spencer, and Casey Burrows. Memorials may be directed to the family.
