Beatrice Rose Harth was born October 27, 1927 in Chicago to Thomas J. and Mary (Hannon) Cryan and died May 22, 2011 at Pleasant View Luther Home in Ottawa. Visitation will be Sunday June 5, 2011 from 1:00 - 2:00pm, at Ottawa Funeral Home followed by a remembrance ceremony with Father Ray officiating. Betty met her late husband, Albert Harth, working at Bernie Brothers' Bakery while in primary school. They were married on November 30, 1946 at Our Lady of Sorrows in Chicago. During their 55 years together, they raised 3 children, Ginny (Richard) Hughes of Grand Ridge, Judy (Phil) Ritter of Lee, FL.; one son, Tom (Suzanne) Harth. During their marriage, they had a store in Chicago, a Hatchery in Elburn and upon moving to the area, Betty worked at Marathon Electric in Earlville. She waited tables at the HiWay Restaurant, managed the Marquette High School cafeteria, and was an in-home caregiver during her later years. Known as Mimi to her ten grandkids and fourteen great grandchildren, she is fondly remembered for her baking, especially her cherry pie. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Betty resided at Pleasant View. Our family is grateful for the care by the nurses and staff and many visitors who made her last years of life bright and happy. Thank You. She is survived by three children, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three sisters, three nephews and two nieces (and their children): Ginny and Dick Hughes, Ed Hughes, Connor and Carly, Bridget (Pete) Vavasour, Taylor, Zachary, Olivia, Colton, Carson and Shealyn, Holly Hughes, Callaghan, Marci (Chris) Hughes-Withey, Bronko, Ted (Geli) Hughes, Tom and Sue Harth, Jodie (Darren) Poundstone, Jade and Josie, Travis Harth, Torrie and Caden, Drew Harth, Judy and Phil Ritter, Spence and Cory, and her three sisters and their children, Cat Ambrosio, Susan and Janie, Alice Flynn, Bob, and Francie Hess, Steve and Mike (Bielunski). Betty was preceded in death by her late husband, Al Papa' Harth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Global Empowerment Team: Leaders in Transformation, a community leadership organization establishing a scholarship in Betty's name for a student pursuing a career in culinary arts or care for the elderly. getLIT persistently educates for healthy food in our schools, especially toward prevention of childhood obesity, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, ADHD and Autism.
