Barbara (Borkowsky) Smith, 74, of Oak Park, California, and formerly of Haddon Heights, New Jersey, died Monday, February 13, 2012, after a two-year battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with prayers at 5:00 p.m. Barbara was born Wednesday, August 18, 1937, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Frank and Louise M. (Foley) Borkowsky. She was a graduate of Marquette High School and St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, Class of 1959. Barbara was an English teacher at Audubon High School for over twenty years where for many years she ran the National Honor Society program. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. Barbara loved photography and traveling the world; especially her many trips to visit her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (John) Sefton of Thousand Oaks, California, and Margaret (Butsch) Wrobel of Fairbanks, Alaska; one son, Brian (Louise) Smith of Plymouth, Michigan; twelve grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Judith ) Borkowsky of Cartersville, Georgia, and Frank (Kristine) Borkowsky of Ottawa, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents.
