Arlene M. Hughes

Arlene M. Hughes, 93, of Ottawa, IL, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Pleasant View in Ottawa. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in Grand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Thursday at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Arlene was born, April 16, 1918, in Grand Ridge, to Jacob and Florence (Clasper) Luckey. She married Howard Van Buren March 1, 1938 in Ottawa. He died Nov. 2, 1969. She then married John W. Hughes on Jan. 1971 at St. Columba Church, and he died Dec. 17, 1994. She was a member of St. Columba Church and AARP. She is survived by one son, Martin (Peggy) Van Buren of Ottawa, three grandchildren, Susan (Patrick) O'Brien, Sally (Mark) Nagrocki, Kathy (Bill) Innes, one step-son, Michael (Kay) Hughes of Ottawa, one step-daughter, Mary Anne Garrow of Sheridan, and six step-grandchildren Brian (Molly) Hughes, Brad Hughes, Kim (Tom) Landers, Kara Hughes, Eleanor Majka and Chris (Edna) Garrow, twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, and two sisters, Helen Dummitt and June Swift. Memorials may be directed to Pleasant View.
