SENECA -- Alvin P. Berkland, 92, of Seneca, died Thursday, Feb. 7, at Community Hospital of Ottawa. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Seneca with the Rev. Tom Bourke officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home in Seneca and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Mr. Berkland was born May 12, 1915, in Morris, to Andrew and Dora (Mahle) Berkland. He married Henrietta Heusel on Oct. 18, 1947, at Marseilles United Methodist Church. She died Nov. 15, 1998. He was a graduate of Seneca High School and served in the Army during World War II as a Master Sergeant with the 78th Signal Corps and served in Europe as a cable splicer. He was an auto mechanic and member of First United Methodist Church in Seneca. He is survived by a daughter, Ann (Gene) Enke of Ottawa; a son, Carl of Winterville, Ga.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Russell of Placentia, Calif. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald in childhood, Raymond and Donald, and a sister, Margaret in childhood.
