Allan "Al" Rexroat, 76, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Ottawa Regional Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Joseph Donton officiating. Visitation will be Monday, September 26, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, with Military Services. Al was born May 25, 1935 in Ottawa, Illinois to Harold and Gertrude (Baier) Rexroat. He married Alma Smith February 3, 1962 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. She passed away January 4, 2010. Al served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957 and was stationed in Korea. He was a Policeman in Ottawa for twenty one years. During that time, from 1974 to 1979 he served as Chief of Police. He also was Chief Bailiff for many years at the Ottawa Court House. Al was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the American Legion. Al is survived by one daughter, Julie Rexroat of Ottawa; three sons, Scott (Joan) of Lake in the Hills, IL, Tim and Russ, both of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Josh and Justin Farro, Trevor, Avery, Garrett, and Ryan Rexroat; one great grandson, Kaden Chalus; one step-brother, David Styles of Indiana; two step-sisters, Mary Jo (Gary) Oschlager of Ottawa, and Kathy (Pete) Sexton of Lake Holiday; and his Step-Mother, Rose Rexroat of Ottawa. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alma; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Kaitlyn. Pallbearers will be Josh and Justin Farro, Trevor Rexroat, Wayne Wiesbrock, Ed Whitney, and Matt Hipes. Memorials may be directed to Arthritis Foundation or Diabetes Foundation. Al loved to golf and fish and was a member of Dayton Ridge for years. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Cubs and Bears. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports.
