Albert "Doc" William Hettel Jr., 77, of Marseilles, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

A rosary will be said on Monday, February 5, at 3:30pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A visitation will follow from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 6, at 10:30am, at St. Joseph Church in Marseilles, with Fr. Sixmund Henry officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.

Doc was born August 18, 1946, in Ottawa, IL, to Albert William and Lillian Mary (Worrels) Hettel Sr. He married Julie Ennis on November 1, 1980 in Sycamore, IL.

Doc worked for 32 years starting at Marbon/Borg Warner/GE Plastics. While he was there, he was a member of the fire brigade and had the opportunity to travel to Germany to train employees at a new facility. He took many trips to see the Bears training camp and to Florida with family and even to learn about hydroponics. He loved his hydroponic tomatoes and lettuce as he was an avid gardener and loved taking care of his trees. He was extremely proud of his gardens as well as his lawn. He was meticulous when it came to maintaining them. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan as well as a New York Yankees fan. He was a grill master as well as an animal lover, especially his dog, Lucy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Moose Lodge, and St. Joseph Church.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Julie Hettel; his children, Albert Hettel III, Melinda Hettel, Mary Hettel, and James Hettel; his brother, Don (Terri) Hettel; his mother in law, Sally Conklin; his brother in law, Steve (Connie) Ennis; his sister in law, Maribeth (Bruce) Kendrick; his cousin, Marggie Seelye;  his special friends that were like family, Jim and Christy Miskell and their children, Chase and Trent; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lillian; his brother Charles "Chuck" Hettel; and his father in law, James R. Ennis.

Pallbearers will be Chase and Trent Miskell, Nathan and Brandon Hettel, and Nate and Phil Ennis. Matt Hettel will be an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Church or Ottawa Friendship House, 1718 N 2525 Rd., Ottawa IL, 61350.
