Geoffrey Jiang Thompson, 19, of Washington, Illinois passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018. A memorial service will be held at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington on Tuesday, November 20, with Rev. Dr. Camilla Hempstead officiating. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by the service at 7:30.
Geoffrey was born February 5, 1999 in Rockford, Illinois to David Thompson and Shu-Huei Henrickson. He attended Lincoln Grade School, Washington Middle School, Illinois Central College where he graduated with High Honors in December 2016, and Rush University. He achieved his black belt at the Academy of Okinawan Karate in 2017 and enjoyed a variety of other hobbies including origami and cooking. Geoffrey volunteered his time for numerous charitable activities including the homeless food kitchen at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, and Rush University Hospital.
He is survived by his parents; paternal grandmother Carol (David) Edman; paternal grandfather James (Margret) Thompson; maternal grandmother Chiang-Lin, Li-Yu; uncle Wesley (Meredith) Thompson; aunt Nora (Christopher Banco) Thompson; aunt Chiang, Shu-Yuan (Tai, Yung-Shang); uncles Terry and Geoff (Heidi) Dodds; and cousins Amy, Kaitlyn, Devon, Wyatt, Eliza, Haley, Sienna, Hana, and Tai, Tz-Ching.
