Donald E. Martin, 82, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital. Funeral Service for Donald will be 11:00 am Friday, June 8, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church with the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 Thursday June 7, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with military services. Donald was born July 10, 1929 in Leland, Illinois to Amos R. and Anna Martin. He married Grace Thorson on April 11, 1964 at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church. She preceded him in death on August 9, 1999. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his time in the Army he received the Korean Service metal with four bronze campaign stars and the United Nations Service metal combat infantry badge. He worked for the Wedron/Dayton Grain Elevator for many years. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church. He is survived by a daughter, Rachel Ann (Dr. Bradley) Morgan of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; a son, David Martin of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Zachary Morgan; He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Alan and Raymond Martin; and two sisters, Mildred and Marion. Pallbearers will be Paul Martin, Dr. Bradley Morgan, Nathaniel Morgan, Thomas Thorson, Mark Thorson, and Matthew Thorson. Memorials may be directed to the family or donor's choice.
